Slow Down to Breathe

“Slow down to breathe”, the hummingbird said. “Watch how I work and I play.  Pay special attention to my moments of rest, for you’ll see that I make time each day.

It may look like I’m always in motion.  It may seem like I never stay still. But each day you’ll see I have moments to rest, and when given those moments I chill.”

Always there

He doesn’t withdraw like the tide.

He’s never tired or asleep.

You won’t hear him say “I’m too busy today” or “check in with me again next week”.

No appointment’s required for a visit.

No transaction needs to take place.

He’s not in a hurry.

His eyes are on me, and they’re brimming with kindness and grace.

God will never say

Quote:  God will never say to us in our prayers “you know, I’m just not interested.” Unknown

We Shine

Somehow, we sing like the robins in the meadow and dance like poppies in the breeze.

Somehow, we blaze like the full moon of harvest and shimmer like bright aspen leaves.

Somehow, by His grace, we shine.

Yellow Butterfly

On my morning walks I look for treasures and

on most days something captures my attention.

Often, it's a bird, or a flower, or a tree.

Today it was a butterfly, plain yellow, meandering along my path.

Later, as I sat on a chair in my yard, a yellow butterfly floated by.

Could it be the same one?

I'm told that a yellow butterfly is a positive sign of hope or happiness for your life.

Now, I don't know if all of that is true, but still,

I'll thank God for the yellow butterfly.

A Gift of Years

A gift of years has been given to me

I realized this when I turned sixty three

But now that I’m well past sixty four

I’m pondering what to do with more

How shall I number the days ahead

So when they announce that I am dead

They’ll say “he lived the Jesus way,

One step at a time, day by day.”

Hiding

Somewhere inside is the real me

I don’t know why but I can’t let you see

And oftentimes I’m not really sure

What makes me feel so insecure

              Perhaps if I only knew

That you feel the same way too

Then maybe we could gradually slide

Out from the places where we hide.

Markings

I was born into a story
A note placed on a chart

A brushstroke made on canvas

A workmanship of art

What part will I play in the story?

What song will my heart sing?

What colors will mark my journey?

What beauty will my life bring?
